EDS and Industry Leadership Go Hand in Hand

VCC recently attended the EDS Leadership Summit — a forum where industry leaders can connect to share ideas, trends and insights that shape our future. A joint effort by the Electronic Components Industry Association and the Electronic Representatives Association, EDS is where serious players join forces for the betterment of all who design, sell, specify or purchase illuminated components.

We covered a few trends in our industry that VCC is well-positioned to help clients leverage, including:

Outsourcing product design to electronic manufacturing services (EMS)

In an effort to save time and fixed costs, many OEMs are transitioning the product design and development duties from in-house design teams to outsourced electronic component manufacturers. VCC has extensive in-house design capabilities, and can often take a product from concept through to prototyping, testing and even producing smaller runs of indication solutions onsite.

We individually modify our standard components in accordance with our customers’ needs. Depending on the environmental requirements, regulations, configuration, or design specifications, we customize our standard components in close collaboration with our customers. Customization of the front design, acoustics, haptics, and marking is all included. The same is true with technical customization.

For example, we created a custom assembly for innovative movie theater seats that empower customers to order food and drink without missing a minute of the action. VCC’s sub-assemblies and in-house design services can streamline the process, adding connectors directly to the assemblies during our production to save on shipping, timelines and overall costs.

Smart devices and smart homes

Smart devices and smart homes are here to stay, as they took consumers to new heights in comfort and convenience. From intelligent thermostats to voice-activated personal assistants, many activities that used to require some effort can be completed without a single click, tap or scroll.

As Alexa and other virtual assistants make searching and shopping easier at home, VCC will continue to design the indicators that streamline smart home tech. But we’ll also make sourcing our electronic components easier than ever, allowing distributors and designers to search and source using voice commands thanks to our comprehensive product descriptions.

IoT technology

It’s no surprise that IoT is everywhere. And it’s only a matter of time before those late adopters in the sector are ready to upgrade their devices with the intelligence modern consumers demand.

From wearables to handhelds for any application, VCC will continue to deliver solutions like capacitive touch sensors, low-profile indicators and 7-segment displays that provide the perfect balance of compact size and innovation.

Looking Back And Moving Ahead

These are just a few of the trends that will shape 2019 and beyond. As we look ahead, we must take a moment to look back at how we helped our customers thrive in 2018. Of course, we didn’t do it alone.

EDS was the perfect platform for our team to network with other leaders in the space, but also thank the partners who helped us thrive in the previous year. In doing so, we recognized our top performers of 2018:

Digi-Key

For the second consecutive year, Digi-Key won VCC’s Distributor of the Year Award for its unwavering support of every NPI we roll out (and there are a LOT of them). With a keen focus on innovation and proactive support, Digi-Key demonstrated impressive year-over-year growth at a rate of 19.4%. Digi-Key’s commitment to providing excellent service and helpful online resources is a win-win for our customers and our company.

EK-Micro

If you’re in this industry, no one has to tell you how important rep support is. That’s why EK Micro won the 2018 VCC Manufacturer’s Rep of the Year Award. EK Micro’s team has the broad knowledge required to educate engineers on the many VCC capabilities and products that can help them solve their HMI design challenges in the most efficient, innovative ways. Specializing in the military, aerospace, medical and telecommunications industries, we look forward to growing together for many years to come. If EK Micro’s year-over-year contribution growth rate of 68% is any indication, there’s no stopping us in 2019 or 2020.

As VCC continues to provide products on pace with — or ahead of — trends in electronic components, we’ll maintain relationships with partners that share our vision, passion and commitment to customers.
