Over the years the Optoelectronics industry has voiced its concern over the cost-effectiveness of either punching a square or drilling a round panel hole for mounting LEDs. In addition, there still remained the problem of maintaining the alignment of the square lenses mounted in round holes once assembled. VCC's SQB 400 lens mount addresses the alignment problem by using a low-profile square lens design that prevents its being turned or easily misaligned. Furthermore, this low-profile design now permits the use of a drilled rather than a square punched hole for panel mounting LEDs, a more cost-effective production method.
Installation in a standard round opening requires no tools and is accomplished by the use of light finger pressure. Just snap the lens mount through the panel and insert the LED from the rear. With this easy mounting procedure the LED can be easily replaced if necessary. Lens mounts are suitable for use on panel thicknesses from .0312” to .250". Additional features include prevention of accidental LED panel back-out and the protection of ICs against electrostatic discharge (ESD) up to 16,000 volts through the LED. The low-profile design also places the LED well back from the front panel significantly reducing the ambient light effect upon the lens while greatly increasing the apparent light output of the LED. Additionally, the viewing angle is dramatically increased up to 180 degrees for both the diffused and non-diffused T1-3/4 LEDs.
The SQB 400 square low-profile lens mount for T1-3/4 LEDs is constructed of optical quality, U.L. listed, polycarbonate thermoplastic in six colors including red, amber, green, yellow, blue and water clear. This square low-profile lens mount is designed for front panel mounting in a .250 diameter hole on .375 centers.
